Week 3 Yoga Challenge

I have a confession to make. This week I have been slacking big time in the fitness department. I have been so preoccupied with getting these picture edits done that I haven’t taken time to focus on myself and workout. I’m pretty disappointed in myself. I only got one run in this week and didn’t even fulfil my yoga challenge for the week. 🙁

Speaking of that yoga challenge I’ve been participating in. It’s hosted by Courtney from Sweet Tooth Sweet Life

Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life

Challenge: To complete 3 yoga sessions per week

  • I started the week off great with a 30 minute yoga session from I am loving the site and their workouts.
  • My second session was last night and it was only a 10 minute session. For whatever reason yoga has slipped my mind this week until last night. We came home from having dinner at friends house and it just popped into my mind. I was exhausted but knew I should get a session in. It was mybarre3 to the rescue with one of their 10 minute videos.
I’m so disappointed in myself. I almost always never beat myself up over anything but I am letting this one get to me.
I must, and will, step it up next week. I’m hoping to work on my July workout schedule today and finish it up by Sunday, along with some July goals. I’m also hoping to start (probably not finish though) my July menus. Often times if I make a menu, we’re pretty good about sticking to it, but if I don’t then our meals aren’t usually as healthy, so I’m working on menus and firmly sticking to them next month.
Have you let yourself down and beaten yourself up about it? What did you do to make sure you did better the next time around?

C25K Week 4 and June Yoga Challenge Week 2 Recap

Another week has flown by and I’m ready for the weekend. Is anyone else ready? Let me hear ya holla!

Last night, I wrapped up Week 4 of the C25K program. It was a much better run than Tuesday’s run. My time was faster, my distance was longer and I have finally started to feel myself doing better with each run. I love that I’m starting to see some progress.

I hit my longest distance since I started the C25K program with 2.49 miles and since I wasn’t back at the house yet, I added another .2 miles walk on top of this to get me back to the house. Overall, I am pleased with this and looking forward to my next run, which may not be until Sunday. I have a TON to do tonight and I’m working at a baseball tournament all day tomorrow.

Now, onto that yoga challenge I’ve been participating in hosted by Courtney from Sweet Tooth Sweet Life

Challenge: To complete 3 yoga sessions per week

  • I got a late start this week. Last weekend was crazy busy so there wasn’t a whole lot of fitness going on. Tuesday was my first yoga session of the week, which was a 30 min session brought on by Comcast On Demand.
  • Earlier in the week, Courtney told her readers about MyBarre3 and later offered a 15 day trial. I jumped at this chance after reading her post about the sire and their workouts. Last night, I was pretty tired but decided to get a quick 10 min yoga session in using one of the videos from the site. If their all as awesome as the video I chose, I am on board. I loved it! They are fabulous! I will definitely being do more of those workouts
Unfortunately, I only completed two yoga sessions for the week, but I know I will do better this week, especially after completing one of the my barre workouts. I already can’t wait for the kiddos to go to bed so I can get my yoga on.
HUGE thanks to Courtney for reaching out to MyBarre3 and scoring her readers a 15 day trial membership.

For now, it’s back to the grind at work. This weekend, I plan on making a little extra money this weekend working a ball tournament, and Sunday, it’s all about TJ. Whatever he’s wanting to do for Father’s Day is what we’ll be doing. Who wants to make a bet that he’ll choose absolutely nothing except hang out at the house and relax. lol.
What are your plans for the weekend? Any fun Father’s Day plans with the dads in your life?

C25K, running, yoga

…….it’s sunny and not raining when I get home. That means a run definitely happened. But before I get to that, let’s start with the morning workout. This morning, I woke up early to fit in a wake up yoga session. As always, I chose a workout from On Demand. This one was called Gentle Yoga. While it was definitely towards beginners and I felt a challenge in a few of the moves, I felt it was too slow for me, and that each movement carried on a little too long. I guess they all can’t be winners, right. By the time I finished the workout, Jordyn was letting me know she was awake. Dylan also woke up and I had some hungry kiddos.

It was off to do my Mommy duties. Dylan opted for just a banana while me and Jordyn each had some of this:

Jordyn’s was missing the chia seeds and she actually had most of the banana. I just had the few slices that were on my piece of toast. The girl is loves bananas.
Once breakfast was eaten and the kids were settled for the morning, it was time to wake up TJ so I could get ready for work.
Work was nothing exciting, so I’ll skip to the good stuff. The run. For some reason, that last run interval kicked my butt. I don’t know if it was because I didn’t wait long enough after dinner and my stomach wasn’t fully settled or what, but it was rough. LOL!

I wasn’t super pleased with myself when I got home but it had been a little bit (a week and a half since my last run), so maybe it should have been expected. I’m hoping for some more sunny days this week (even though there’s a chance of rain everyday through Saturday) so I can get at least 1, if not 2, more runs in this week to get myself back on track. And Sunday, I need to do a weigh in. It’s been almost two weeks since I had a weigh in.

For now, it’s off to bed to do a little reading.

How was your day? Did your workouts go they way you wanted them to? Do you have any tips to share when it comes to becoming a better runner?

June Yoga Challenge, Week 1 Recap and Some Pretty Great News

First, I have to start off with the great news. I don’t know if you remember, but Jordyn broke her arm a few weeks ago. We took her to the doctor, and they took the cast off, and took the pins out of her arm!!! They wrapped her arm in a soft wrap so the wound where the pins were could close and told us we could take it off in a few days. So when I get home from work, off the wrap comes. YAY!!!!!!

We officially won’t be done dealing with her arm until she’s done growing but there is no more cast. Because of the type of surgery she had to have, they have to keep an eye on her to see how it develops. There’s a 20% chance that when she straightens her arm it will also go out to the side. There’s no way to prevent it and thankfully there no problems if it happens, it’s just cosmetic. We take Jordyn in two weeks for a follow-up and then every 6 months for 2 years and every year after that until she stops growing. A little bit of a pain but it’s better to keep an eye on it.
And I can’t leave out my other kiddo. By the time I get home from work, I will have a SECOND GRADER! I can’t believe it. And to finish off the year, he received Perfect Attendance for the year (which we already knew) and High Honor Roll, meaning he received All A’s for the 9 weeks. That’s twice this year. And the other two 9 weeks, he received Regular Honor Roll, All A’s and B’s. We have one smart kiddo on our hands. I couldn’t be more proud!
And…….TJ has received his final grades for the quarter and earned a 4.0 for the quarter, giving him a 3.4 overall. WAY TO GO BABE!
Finally, remember when I promised edited pictures from a friend’s Maternity shoot I took? Well, with broken arms, baby showers, another photo shoot and everything else, I finally have them finished. It took me a week longer than I wanted too, which disappoints me (my friend on the other hand didn’t seem phased) but she received the pictures yesterday and loves them, which is what really matters. What do you think?

I don’t claim to be a pro, but I love taking pictures for people. Maybe one day after practice and some online classes (which I’m looking into), I could become a pro. That would be my dream!
Now that I’m done with the all the happy news, onto Courtney’s June Yoga Challenge. The Recap for Week 1:

Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life

Challenge: To complete 3 yoga sessions per week

  • Shape Up Workout from my Comcast On Demand that I talked about here
  • Another Comcast On Demand workout was a yoga session with Bethany Frankel
  • And my last session: yesterday morning from, you guessed On Demand. Unfortunately, and adorable little girl woke up in the middle of the session, so I had to take a break long enough to get out of her crib and then it was back to yoga. Jordyn thought it was so fun to crawl under me and sit there during some of my poses, so getting out of the poses either meant they weren’t graceful or I just had to stay until she decided to move. LOL! Gotta love kids.
After this week, I have learned that I have a lot of work to do but it’s so calming and relaxing they make for a great morning or late (ok, not too late, this lady goes to bed around 10) night workout. I’ve been wondering if I could TJ on board with doing it with me. Hmmmm…….
Tonight I’m going to try to get a yoga session in since I know this weekend won’t happen. Tomorrow, we’re making the 2 1/2 hour drive to Jacksonville, FL to see a really good friend of ours graduate with her SECOND bachelor’s degree. If she’s not motivating, I don’t know who is. And Sunday, I have a baby shower in Beaufort for that beautiful lady in the pictures above.
What are your plans for the weekend? Anything fun or exciting?

A Relaxing Sunday

The weekend is almost over and I’m not ready for it to end. It was such a great weekend. Yesterday was a girl’s day with one of my best friends, Beth. It started with a bridesmaids dress fitting for her wedding in December. And then it was off to her apartment to help her pack up her car with a load of items to take to her fiancé’s house. Her lease is up at the end of the month and rather than renew for 6 months, she’s moving on with him early. It was then off for lunch at Chili’s and finally to Sam’s Club for LOTS of fruit!

There were also bananas but I forgot to include them in the pictures, but half the bananas and grapes are gone already. It’s crazy how much fruit we eat on this house so Sam’s Club is perfect for us when it comes to buying fruit. LOL!
Once I got home, it was off to laundry and a little bit of cleaning. Jordyn sure knows how to mess up a house. HAHA!  I ended my Saturday night on a very low-key way. I spent a quiet night with a book. If only I had had some wine to make it even better.
This morning I woke up, as I do every morning, to the sound of Jordyn. TJ was already home and in his man cave (it’s the fancy way to say the garage. lol) working on some music and when he heard me get up, he told me to go back to sleep, he’d get her. No objections from me. I went back to bed to sleep in, something that has only happened once or twice since Jordyn has been born. I only got an extra hour of sleep, but getting up 8 was nice.
Once I was up, it out for a run. Due to the rain and other events last week, I wasn’t able to get any of the C25K runs in. I kicked off this morning with Week 4, Day 1. While my overall time isn’t a run, my time is the best I’ve had and when using Runkeeper, I am able to see what my pace is during the running portions and I’m not disappointed. It’s not the best time but it’s a great starting point for me.
I came home from the run and wanted to get some strength training. I waited until Jordyn went down for her nap and was off to the gym. I got in a quick stationary bike workout to get my heart rate up and then started with some free weights to work on upper body
It was then home for breakfast. A chocolate, banana and peanut butter protein smoothie. It was AMAZING and be on the lookout for the recipe later this week.
Time for laundry and later lunch, which was a delicious Spinach salad with dried cranberries, crispy noodles, sliced almonds, half of a hard boiled egg and sweet onion dijon dressing.
And finally for dinner, it was off to the grill for some fabulous shrimp and veggies.
Now, I am relaxing and editing some pictures and heading to bed. Have a good night everyone!
How was your weekend? What did you do over the weekend?
5K, C25K, events, running, Savannah, yoga

I Am Registered……

….for my first 5K!!! I am SO excited. It’s the 2012 Enmark Savannah Bridge Run. It’s a 5K that starts on Hutchinson Island, goes across the Talmedge Bridge (the bridge below) and ends in downtown Savannah by the Civic Center. The bridge is 1.4 mile span, has a 5.5% grade and is 196 feet above the Savannah River (facts straight from the race website).
The race isn’t until December 1st, exactly 6 months form tonight, so I hope to run at least one if not two before then but this is the first race I have actually registered for. I’m excited but a little nervous at the same time. That’s probably due to the fact that I’m still not done with the C25K program but I’ll get there. The rain just needs to stop. LOL!
On another note, I completed my first yoga session for the June Yoga Challenge I talked about earlier that is being put on by the fabulous Courtney from Sweet Tooth Sweet Life. Boy, do I have some work to do. I’m so glad I did it and I feel great that I did it, but I’m not good at it. LOL! I used to be better at Yoga but I seemed to have lost what little bit of skill I had. The only thing I can do is keep going with and fingers crossed by the end of the month, I will be much better.
Your turn: What kind of race was your first race? What kind of training did you do for your first race? How about Yoga? Is it something you enjoy? Do you struggle like me or are you a pro and have some tips for me? LOL!

June Yoga Challenge

So I know seriously just posted but I have something exciting to share. I’m catching up on some of my favorite blogs and I happen upon a post from Courtney from Sweet Tooth Sweet Life. The is bar far my favorite blog. She posts fantastic workouts and recipes, and different events going on in her life. She is great and you should definitely check her out

Courtney has proposed a yoga challenge for the month of June. She is giving us the opportunity to customize the challenge so that it fits our needs and goals. It can be anything. You can challenge yourself to complete a certain number of sessions each week, maybe a number of minutes, or learn a new pose by the end of the month, anything you want. She will also provide a link party each Friday in June beginning next Friday, June 8th for you to share your progress. You can also tweet about the challenge using the hashtag #juneyogachallenge  and support each other throughout the week.

Worried about not having any yoga DVDs? Do a search on you tube, check your On Demand in the sports and fitness category, pick one up the store or on Amazon, find a local yoga class to go to.

For more details and information on the challenge, check out Courtney’s June Yoga Challenge Post and grab one of her challenge widgets to add to your blog!

For me: I am keeping my challenge like Courtney’s. I’m challenging myself to 3 yoga workouts a week. I think this is a great number for me to get into a habit and will fit right in with my C25K runs. This can be my morning workout or I can make it my workout after the run to relax me. I will start this tonight after tonight’s run!

Will be joining the challenge? What are you going to challenge yourself to do?
